Start the engine. Shift the gear selector into the corresponding mode – “Park” or “Neutral”. Unscrew the inspection plug at the bottom of the gearbox. If the fluid leaks out of the hole, there is no need to top it up. Screw the cap back in. If nothing leaks out, this means there isn’t enough oil.
Wipe any excess gear oil from the case. Step 3: Locate and remove the gear oil fill bolt. Step 4: Use a pump to slowly add the recommended type of gear oil to the differential. Step 5: Add the recommended amount of gear oil to the differential, or until gear oil starts to dribble out of the fill hole. Step 6: Reinstall and tighten the fill hole
WOW what a difference :o gear change feels smooth deacceleration noise has been dramatically reduced. i found a garden hose pipe was the ideal size for the refill, but the draw back is you can not see the oil in the pipe so i got a bit messy and i over filled it but it soon self leveled when i pulled out the pipe.
Shaun Whale from 4WD Action shows us how. All you'll need to do a gearbox oil change is a car jack, jack stands or ramps, level bar, socket or spanner, drain plug washer, oil drain pan, some Don't overfill or underfill the gearbox, engine oil or differential. Fill the gearbox until the oil BARELY begins to seep out of the hole in the side of the box. Then, let the car sit for a few minutes or so and check it again. With or without overdrive, that's how you do it.Although, when I enquired at the local dealership they said that it should be done about every 40k miles (and uses 7-8 litres of oil). Strange ! They also recommended that I use Castrol Dexron III because it's what they use. My car has done about 103k miles so I guess I can hold for about another 10-15k miles.
