11 posts · Joined 2008. #13 · Aug 12, 2009. It's fairly common for 5th gear end nut to come slack on the input shaft and cause selector problems especially between 4th and 5th. You only need to take the end plate off the gearbox to check so not a big job to do. Check that first as it may just need tightening.
As has been posted, the problem of too large a ratio difference has been removed by fitting a six speed box in the x250 and later models. The 6th gear in the new box hs a similar ratio to the old 5th. Consequently the large gap between 4th and 5th has been removed.. A lower ratio 5th gear was an option on both x230 and x244 models, but does not

This "extra" is to minimise the risk of the fifth gear failure through running out of oil in its external gearbox casing from the main gearset & is also recommended by the Fiat dealers out here.

Jan 8, 2007. #3. i've never heard of a crankshaft oil seal that works like the one you have described. in fact it doesnt even sound like an oil seal at all, certainly not one i've ever come across. i think its more likely that they have supplied the wrong part.

I could not find my 1/2 drive deep sockets.While trying diffrent sockets I noticed that there was plastic breather alongside the switch.I removed the top cap by lifting upwards.
